Driving Directions

Maryland DNR's directions are short: the park is at the western terminus of the Bay Bridge, off US 50/301 at exit 32. The park office and headquarters are the first building on the left after the entrance intersection.

Where to Park

South Beach. Drive straight down the main road to the end. Lots sit on both sides at South Beach, and when they fill, rangers direct beach traffic to the open lots. This is the lifeguarded beach with the main bathhouse and food concession. See the beach guide.

East Beach. Take the first paved road on the left after the contact station. This lot is only for visitors who have rented one of the twelve picnic pavilions.

Marina and boat ramps. Take the first paved road on the right and follow it to the large marina lot. The 22 ramps are at the bottom of the lot, in Mezick Pond. Overnight trailer parking is allowed here with a form from the Marina Store. See boat ramps.

Small craft launch. Take the first left after the large white house on the left, which is the Sandy Point Mansion. The launch is past the parking lot at the end of the road, and the turnoff is signed. Parking there is limited. See kayaking.

Park headquarters. From inside the park, go back to the entrance intersection and turn right; it is the first building on the left.

Summer Weekends: Reserve First

On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day, Sandy Point takes day-use reservations only. Book up to 7 days ahead at parkdayuse.maryland.gov and show the QR code at the gate. Before the system, the lots filled and cars that had waited for hours were turned away. Details and prices are on hours and fees.

Buses and Groups

Buses need a $17 reservation made in advance. The park takes up to 5 buses a day on weekends and holidays and 10 on weekdays. Youth groups arriving on a non-holiday weekday pay $3 a person.

Getting Around Inside the Park

The beaches, picnic areas and marina are spread along the park road. The two short trails start near the Tollgate picnic area and the small craft lot; see hiking and the trail map.
